Vibratory Bowl Feeder for Automotive Clips and Fasteners

RNA designs and manufactures automotive clip feeding systems for the reliable feeding, orientation and presentation of plastic and metal clips, fasteners and retainers. From trim clips and fir-tree clips to spring clips, panel fasteners and spire clips, each vibratory bowl feeder is engineered around the component geometry, required orientation, feed rate and downstream assembly process.

Automotive Clips

Our systems can combine a vibratory bowl feeder, hopper, linear feeder and escapement to deliver correctly orientated clips at a controlled rate, ready for robotic handling, automated insertion or further assembly.

Why Automotive Clip Feeding Is Different

Automotive clips can be challenging to feed consistently. Small differences in geometry, material, centre of gravity and surface finish influence how a clip behaves under vibration. Features such as barbs, legs, hooks and flexible tabs can also cause component parts to overlap, interlock or settle in multiple orientations. Getting this wrong shows up downstream as line stoppages, part jams, or misfeeds into an assembly robot.

RNA addresses this through bowl and tooling design specific to each clip geometry — stepped, conical, or cylindrical bowls; polyurethane or polished steel track finishes; and escapement systems matched to the collection method (static nest, pneumatic, electric, or rotary table).

Overcoming Automotive Clip Feeding Challenges

Eliminating Clip Tangling & Interlocking Spring clips and U-nuts naturally tend to interlock when stored in bulk. RNA’s stepped bowl geometries, combined with targeted air-jet separation and mechanical wiper gates, break apart tangled clusters before they reach the sorting track, ensuring 100% single-file orientation.
Protecting Moulded & Coated Clip surfaces Delicate plastic trim fasteners and rubberised seal clips can suffer cosmetic scuffing or flash damage in standard metal bowls. We utilise high-grade PU250 polyurethane spray linings and polished stainless-steel tracks to ensure smooth, damage-free transfer.
High-Speed Multi-Lane Delivery When downstream cycle times require extreme speed, RNA engineers multi-track linear systems and dual-bowl configurations that deliver up to 80+ parts per minute across dual lanes with integrated optical sensor verification.

Key Engineering Capabilities

Types of Bowl Feeders

Cylindrical Bowls / Conical Bowls / Stepped Bowls / Application-specific bowl tooling

Advanced Surface Coatings

Heavy-duty polyurethane (PU250) smooth and textured coatings prevent metallic wear, reduce operating noise, and protect painted or moulded trim clips from cosmetic damage.

Integrated Escapements

Pneumatic, electric, rotary table, and side-shuttle escapement mechanisms present single or paired components precisely to downstream assembly units or 6-axis robots.

From Clip Feeding to Robotic Clip Assembly

Where the requirement extends beyond feeding and presentation, RNA can integrate clip feeding into a complete automated assembly process.

The FlexType™ Clip robotic clipping system combines bowl feeding, linear tracks and escapements with robotic handling to pick, insert and verify automotive clips during component assembly.

This provides a route from bulk clip feeding through to controlled, repeatable automated clip insertion within a single engineered system.
