Escapements and Nests

RNA Automation offer complete feeding and handling solutions including escapements and nests to accurately position component parts for collection by the customer’s handling units.

Part Escapements and Nests are used to separate one component part from the line of parts coming out of a linear feeder or a conveyor.

They allow for the effective release of the correctly orientated parts at the correct location and can be used for manual or automated processes. Escapements and nests come in various forms. At RNA, our engineers will work with you and your team to determine the best solutions for your application.

Static Nests or Dead Nests

Parts are delivered to a static pickup point where a robotic arm or a pick and place system can access and pick the part up, and then another part immediately fills the vacancy once a part is removed.

Pneumatic Escapements

Pneumatic escapements use pneumatic actuators to singulate and present a component for collection, with sensors used to confirm the presence of a component in the pick position.

Pneumatic Escapements - Tic-Toc

Pneumatic escapement types include Blow Feed Systems, Tic-Toc Mechanisms, Side Shuttle and Rotary Actuator Mechanisms.

Additional features can be added to the escapement such as vision sensors to carry out orientation checks.

Electric Escapements

Electric escapements utilise electric actuators to singulate and present components, typically in multiples, for collection by the customer’s handling unit.

Similar to pneumatic escapements our electric escapements are available in several forms including multiple pocket side shuttles and rotary actuator mechanisms, and cad feature additional features such as vision sensor orientation checks.

Control

All RNA escapements and dead nests are developed and tested in conjunction with the full feed system that they are being provided with to prove their mechanical function and reliability.

They can be supplied with leads left looped or wired to a junction box for customer control, or controlled by a full PLC control system.
